IKE 6-cylinder

A small note:
In my setup/car I can't reset the consumption data by the BC-arm - I must use the BordMonitor? I don't no why! Also lanuage and consumption (L/100, or KM/L and so) can't be changed! This must be done by the DIS/BMW - but how offen do you change this anyway??
Before you begin - disconnect the negative/ground cable from the battery in the trunk!
But, hold your horses - do you have the following parts?

Parts for rebuild Yes / No
IMPORTANT - the SA-key MUST have been read and printed out!
IKE (High-Cluster/BC High) + plugs
Gong + plug
Turnsignalarm w/BC + connector & wire
Loose wire 0,75 mm2 & 1,00 mm2
Levelswitch for coolant + plug/wire
Levelswitch for wipefluid + plug/wire
Can you answer yes to all above - carry on,- else:

Remove the old cluster like this:
Use a TORX-bit, size 10 to remove the 3 screws.
You can release the screws by turning the bit by hand!
Pry out the 2 trim panels
Remove the 3 philips screws and then remove the trim panel with the lightswitches. Disconnect the plugs!
Finally, remove the 2 TORX-10 screws that holds the cluster.
Disconnect the 2 plugs by pressing the small lock/tap down and then move the lever towards the front of the plug.
You should now be looking at 2 x 26-pin plugs, one white and one black.
Before you do anything else, make sure that the wires are placed the same way as the following 2 tables shows! NC - Not Connected!

X 10114 Blue 26
However, you can't normally buy plugs in theese colors at BMW!
One way to overcome this - is to get a set of plugs from a broken/wracked car!
There is 2 ways to do this - old or new.
Old plugs:

Get a set of plugs with 20 cm of wires from the 2 x 18-pin (AMP) & 1 x 26-pin (SIEMENS)
IKE 26-pin plug:

Move the wires from the 2 old plugs to this new IKE-plug as described above!
IKE 18-pin plugs:

Cut of the old pins and solder the wires from the used wirehardness to the same colored wire.
The 2 x 26-pin plugs from the old cluster is from SIEMENS, whereas the 18-pin plugs are from AMP - you can't move pins from SIEMENS to AMP or the other way around!
That is why you have to solder!
If you can't get a set of used plugs - you will have to buy some new ones!
New plugs:

You must buy 2 x 18-pin houseing, cover og lockplate - also some wire with pins attached.
Partlist for AMP 18-pin plug BMW P/N:
18-pin houseing 61 13 1 383 852
18-pin cover 61 13 1 392 244
Lockplate 61 13 1 383 650

Partlist for SIEMENS 26-pin plug BMW P/N:
26-pin houseing 61 13 8 373 618
26-pin cover 61 13 8 373 616
Lockplate 61 13 1 383 740
Loose wires with pins:
Buy 30 pcs. of theese:
BMW P/N: 61 13 0 006 663 - AMP (0,75mm2 wire & pin)
Buy 10 pcs. of theese:
BMW P/N: 61 13 0 008 998 - SIEMENS (0,75mm2 wire & pin)
I-bus wire/plug:

BMW P/N: 61 13 1 387 140 - I-bus wire/plug (0,35mm2 - 0,50mm2)

GROUND wire/plug:

Two GOUND wire/plug for IKE Cluster and one for GONG.
BMW P/N: 61 13 1 387 142 - GROUND wire/plug (0,75mm2 - 1,00mm2)
Two GOUND wire/plug for IKE Cluster and one for GONG.

GONG:
Do you want to have sound indicator of low temperature, applied handbrake and so - you will need a GONG!
BMW P/N: 65 81 8 360 995 - GONG + plug
Fluid levelsensors:
Levelsensor,- please talk with your local BMW dealer - because different models are on the market.
Please observe! When the LCM / Light Control Module is beeing updated with SA555 option - you get warings of low fluidlevels in coolant and washerfluid!
If you don't want to mount thoose sensors - attach theese 2 pin to ground from the LCM-module:

Pin-10 in the black 54-pin plug (X10117) - connect to GROUND (washerfluid)
Pin-24 in the black 54-pin plug (X10117) - connect to GROUND (coolantfluid)
Pin type:

AMP:

Above pin is an AMP. You can see the small metal plate that is clearly taller in the left side (seen from wire end!)
Graphic shows a plug - in the lower left corner you see a pin from the wire end.
SIEMENS:

Above pin is an SIEMENS. You can see a small metal plate that is centerted (seen from wire end!)
Graphic shows a plug - in the lower left corner you see a pin from the wire end.
You must mount the following new wires to the IKE Cluster:
  • Wire from the rear brakepadsensor. This wire/cable is found in the thrunk to the right - just behind the cover for the shockabsorber.
You will find a cable (brown wire + black wire). You must cut the brown wire!
Solder a new wire to the brown wire leading FROM the sensor and connect this to pin-20 i the 26-pin blue plug (X10114). The brown loose wire leading TO the sensor needs to be isolated - no needed anymore!
  • Behind glovecompartment there is some SPLICE-boxes/KAMBOX. You must find the 2 boxes which contains the I-bus & the K-bus. Between thoose 2 boxes there is a bridge/gateway - this bridge must be cut! (Test for this bridge be measure the resistance between the 2 bus'es - should be higher than 100 ohm)
Connect a wire/plug to the I-bus Splice and connect the wire to pin-8 in the white 18-pin plug (X10113).
    • I-bus has this color code: WS/GR/GE - white/gray/yellow (multimedia, MFS, LCM, DSP, CD and more)
    • K-bus has this color code: WS/RT/GE - white//red/yellow (EWS, IHKA and more)
  • Connect 2 GROUND wires from the Splice beneath IKE Cluster / steering wheel. Look for a Splice with brown/black wire = GROUND. Theese 2 wires must be connected to pin-9 & pin-10 in the white plug (X10113)
  • If updating from LOW Cluster - a wire must be drawn to the BC-key in turnsignal arm. You will need a SIEMENS pin. Insert the new pin into position 10 in plug (X32) BC/turnsignal arm and connect the other end to pin-5 in the blue 26-pin plug (X10114).
  • Finally, GONG sound!
    • From pin-11 in the white plug (X10113) a wire is drawn to pin-2 / T3 in GONG plug (X522)
    • From pin-17 in the white plug (X10113) a wire is drawn to pin-3 / T2 in GONG plug (X518)
    • From pin-18 in the white plug (X10113) a wire is drawn to pen-2 / T1 in GONG plug (X518)
    • A GROUND wire must also be drawn to GONG - GROUND can be taken from same Splice as above. Connect the GROUND wire to pin-1 in GONG plug (X522)
    • You can (is not needed?) draw a wire from GONG to GM (GeneralModule). The wire must be connected from pin-3 in GONG plug (X522) to GM pin-19 in the black 20-pin plug (X254). Pin in GM has color RT/GE - red/yellow. Function should be comsumer cut-off!?!
When finished with the move/solder and cable/wire mount - you should have 3 plugs as seen below!

Connect the IKE Cluster!
Observe:
- if an used IKE is mounted, maybe all will work, maybe only some - but one thing is for sure,- you will ALWAYS have the 'warning' indicator dot between 'km/miles' and actual milage.
- if IKE is new - only speedometer works
It just needs to coded! SA-555 is the 'option' which needs to be 'added' to the original SA-key (new SA-key is recalculated by BMW for a small fee)
