Lord the US Congress is officially out of ideas.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/....ap/index.html

Apparently all we have left is going 30+ years backwards to see how we handled problems then. There are no new ideas. Why actually come up with a plan when you can just look to the past, and hope for the best.

Man these people are failures, I wrote my Reps & Sens...hope some of you other US Citizens..do the same.

I guess they just read a wiki:

Only an idiot politician from the state of VA would come up with that idea. Maybe we should ban cars so we can go back to horses and carriages.

What I do not understand is why US is so far behind in railway/ train mass transit system. People will spend 1 hour to commute 15-20 miles where they can instead take train to get there in 10-15 minutes. The politicians are still more worried to make it cheaper to travel by road than worrying about other alternatives.

US only knows about roads and airplanes. And both the systems are in a mess. People have accepted to go through TSA torture / flight delays / cancellations as way of life.

Other parts of world has high speed trains which go over 200 mph. Why not have high-speed trains like TGV, Thalys, MAGLEV? Will also solve travel between big cities and ease-up airports mess is US.

Travel from New York City to Cleveland, Ohio(distance of 360 miles) takes almost 12 hours by Amtrak (average speed 30mph).

TGV trains in Europe will do that distance is less than 2 hours.

No, because geographically, the US is significantly larger than small european countries.
If they wanted to cut down on fuel usage, they would cut down on the funding of the 20+ NH Staties who were idling their big, inefficient V8's at the border trolling for speeders this morning. What a load of fookin' BS, and this will, in NO way pass. And if it did, do you seriously think it will make a difference? Everywhere I go, 65 means 80 anyways.

The problem is not that they are out of ideas. They all know perfectly well what needs to be done. The problem is that they also know perfectly well that if they do what needs to be done, they will no longer be in congress anymore come next election, or worse yet -- they will be dead.

But you are correct....if there is enough public pressure and each of them believes that once they "cross the bridge", everyone else in congress will cross with them, then they will do the right thing. Unfortunately, that rarely happens in our political system. None of them are willing to risk their neck unless they are assured it will produce results, rather than just end up being a late night rant on C-SPAN.
