My X is in the shop..

Ok, my car started to go really crazy last weekend, and it had a hard time starting. SES came on, and scanned for mutiple misfires. Coolant light came on and I had to top it off. I finally called Morristown BMW and brought the car in on Friday the 8th. I got a phone call at 2:45 that day and was told that they will keep the car for the weekend to further diagnose cause. I said OK since they did provide me with an X3 as a loaner. Today, I followed up at 11:00 leaving a message for my SA. He called back at 11:53 stating that they still can not point out what exactly the problem is, and that at this point they have BMW assisting them with the diagnosis. At this point I'm just waiting patiently and hoping that they can fix my X soon. I'm ok with the X3, but it's no contest to my 6Spd X5. And I did mention to them the possiblity of the Oil Separator, and also the valve cover gasket, and pretty much all that I have read about common issues with the X. I'll just keep you guys updated on the progress soon as I hear more from dealer.

Sounds like more of an electical issues than a mechanical or fluid issue. My guess is the cam or cranks sensor

you're guess is as good as mine 'cause even the dealer can not figure it out. Sometimes I feel like people here in X5world are more knowledgable that the techs at the stealers.

ok 4:00PM, I called and the SA he told me that most likely the problem is internal affecting cylinder head and other components. BMWNA is now telling the dealer to open up the engine. SA said that it may require a lot of parts being changed or the engine alogether. I will supposedly get another more detailed update tomorrow afternoon.

Sounds expensive. What does your warranty cover with this work?

My warranty covers: Engine, engine heads, engine block etc. I got Auto One Warranty Specialist Platinum Coverage. I'm hoping I will not run into any complications with them. As I said in a previous thread I'll be a guinea pig for this warranty. This is my chance to write a review once all is done. Both Dealer Service and Aftermarket Warranty.

Sometimes (most times) ppl on this board are more knowledgeable, and most times a good indie can tell you what's wrong before a BMW mech with BMW NA help desk on the phone can. No offense to any dealer mechanics out there, but its usually a stepping stone to your own shop... IMO

I know some good dealer mechanics, they are out there. Most times if you have aftermarket warranty, might be worth it to go to indie..

Well, it's 2:00PM and I called SA to check up on my car, and to his response, "The engine was pulled and head, cylinders, etc are being looked at, and I will let you know what repair need to be done soon as I get more info". I think it's a bit long for them to diagnose what the actual issue is. They still do not know, and it's been a few days already. I guess I'm just a bit anxious to know what the problem is, and once I'm aware then they can take all the time to repair.

Great job MORRISTOWN BMW!

UPDATE! Today I got a call back from my SA at 11:00AM, and I was told of what the diagnosis was with my car. I was told that the cylinder head is warped and other components are affected, and that it may need a complete overhaul or a new engine. Fortunately, the dealer and BMW back tracked and found out that there was a similar case to mine, and that BMW will cover all expenses parts/labor. My aftermarket warranty is no longer needed for this repair which will save me another $100.00 in deductible. I am very happy with what Morristown BMW and BMW did for me. I went down to the shop and personally thanked Mario Manfre (SA), for a great service. I'll just have to wait another week for the complete repair, which I don't mind since I have the X3 for use.
